Saumya Pant, Ph.D., is an activist, a teacher, a researcher with more than twenty years’ experience working with grassroots communities in areas of equity and empowerment. Her expertise is in topics related to gender equity, gender empowerment, communication for social change, participatory community-based research, field-based research design and implementation, participatory theater for development and entertainment education media strategy for social change.

Saumya’s strength is in designing and implementing research projects that use creative pathways to discover problems and finding holistic solutions. She uses theater for change to enable individuals, groups, and institutions to create change through dialogue, reflection and action. For her, theater is a creative tool for personal, social, and organizational transformation.

Saumya is currently the Director of a Graduate Program in Communication and Development Studies at Ohio University where she teaches international students from all over the world to become active practitioners of social change by using innovative communication strategies. After completing their degree, her students often work as country-heads and officers of organizations such as United Nations, World Bank and other International Non-profits.

 

On a personal note, Saumya has travelled to 42 countries and lived in four continents. She is an explorer who seeks connection with places and people she visits. She is fortunate to be married to a partner who challenges every masculine dogma of our world and helps her to raise their two beautiful daughters with empathy and care.
